2011 Tour de France PDF Print E-mail
The Tour de France has announced the depart for the 2011 race.  It will start about 150 meters off the continent near Noirmoutier on July 2.  Ile Noirmoutier was the start of the 2005 race.  They will finish with a climb on Mont des Alouettes near Les Herbiers.  Stage 2 will be a team time trial around Les Essarts and stage 3 will leave from Olonne-sur-Mer in the Vendee region on the west coast of France.

2010 American Mountain Bike Challenge announced - Series features 21 events in 16 states

USA Cycling announced today the dates and venues for its 2010 American Mountain Bike Challenge. AMBC events will serve as qualifiers for the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships July 15-18 in Granby, Colo.

The 21-race series will visit 16 states in seven months. The calendar is as follows:

- March 14: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #1 - Gainesville, Fla.
- March 28: Chickasaw Trace Classic - Columbia, TN
- April 10: 17th Annual Barking Spider Bash - Boise, Idaho
- April 11: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #3 - Bryson City, NC
- April 25: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #4 - Winder, Ga.
- April 25: Greenbrier Challenge - Hagerstown, Md.
- May 1-2: The Idyllwild Spring Challenge - Idyllwild, Calif.
- May 2: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #5 - Huntsville, Ala.
- May 2: Stump Jump - Spartanburg, S.C.
- May 16: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #6 - Ducktown, Tenn.
- June 12-13: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #7 - Jackson, Ga.
- June 20: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #8 - Clemson, S.C.
- July 3-4: DINO Challenge - North Vernon, Ind.
- July 11: 15th Annual Bulldog Rump - Andover, N.J.
- July 11: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #9 - Chattanooga, Tenn.
- August 1: Bear Creek Challenge - Macungie, Pa.
- August 7-8: Southeastern Regional Championship Series #10 - Fontana, N.C.
- September 3-5: Camp Eagle Classic MTB Festival - Rocksprings, Texas
- October 2: Road Apple Rally - Farmington, N.M.
- October 23-24: Piney Hills Classic - Ruston, La.

Mountain bikers of all ages and abilities can participate. Each location offers cross country events, and some offer short-track cross country, downhill, time trials, or super D competitions as well. The top ten finishers in each respective age group and ability category will qualify to compete at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships.

The director of the Giro d'Italia, Angelo Zomegnan, has been in talks with the mayor of Washington DC about a possible 2012 start of the race there.  If it happens, the prologue and stage 1 would be there.  DC Mayor Fenty is an avid cyclist and talks are ongoing, according to a NY Times article today.
 
2010 Tour de France Route Unveiled PDF Print E-mail

The 2010 Tour de France route was unveiled in Paris this week.  The race starts in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on July 3 with a prologue.  Then the race will head over some cobblestones into Brussels, Belgium before crossing back into France.  The race will make its way through the north of France into the Alps with a rest day in Morzine.  Two more mountain stages through Saint Jean de Maurienne and then Chambery to Gap before heading into the Massif Central and then the Pyrenees.  There will be 4 high mountain stages in the Pyrenees, including the Tourmalet twice.  A long 51k time trial around Bordeaux before the final parade into Paris on the Champs Elysee.
