Team Sky, Floyd Landis again, Radio Shack |

Team Sky has decided to quit the Vuelta d'Espagna after the death of team masseur on Friday. Txema Gonzalez, age 43, died from septic shock and a bacterial infection at a hospital in Seville. Cyclists on the team are not believed to be affected but the team is awaiting the results of blood tests on riders to be sure. A few have come down with unrelated infections.
Floyd Landis has filed a whistle blower lawsuit under the False Claims Act which allows people to sue on behalf of the US government. If the government takes up the lawsuit, Landis could get 30% of the take. A spokesman for Lance Armstrong has said "What remains a mystery is why the government would devote a penny of the taxpayer's money to help Floyd Landis. This news that Floyd Landis is in this for the money confirms everything we all knew about Landis." The suit is sealed so details are not available.
Team Radio Shack has signed Manuel Antonio Cardoso of Portugal, Jesse Sergent of New Zealand, and Michael Kwiatkowski of Poland.

Laurent Fignon has died of cancer at the age of 50. He may be best remembered for losing to Greg LeMond by 8 seconds on the Champs Elysee in 1989 during the final stage of the Tour de France. He did win the Tour twice, in 1983 and 1984.

He was passionate about cycling, so much so that he sometimes had some tantrums, as in this photo where he got off his bike in the middle of the race.

He did some commentating for France television despite his terminal cancer the past year.

The race started at 6:30 am at barely dusk.

Levi Leipheimer won the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race and set a new record. He knocked 12 minutes off Lance's 2009 record time of 6:28:30 and won at 6:16:37.

Levi was with a lead group of about 6 riders on the first climb. Those included Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Dave Wiens, and Todd Wells. By the time they reached the bottom of the climb to the Columbine Mine they were about 20 minutes ahead of the rest of the race.

On the climb back up Powerline, Levi and Jeremy were together, having dropped everyone else.

Levi finished about 9 minutes ahead of Kobelski. Most of the race was at 9,000 feet with climbs to 12,600 feet.
