Stage 4 from Vichy – Saint Etienne

On the descent of the Col du Beau Louis, 20 k from the finish, Christian Vandevelde attacked.  He stayed away the rest of the stage to claim his first Paris-Nice victory.  Alberto Contador gained back 30 seconds and is now in 4th place overall, still behind Sylvain Chavanel who retains the yellow jersey.
