The race started at 6:30 am at barely dusk.
Levi Leipheimer won the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race and set a new record. He knocked 12 minutes off Lance’s 2009 record time of 6:28:30 and won at 6:16:37.
Levi was with a lead group of about 6 riders on the first climb. Those included Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Dave Wiens, and Todd Wells. By the time they reached the bottom of the climb to the Columbine Mine they were about 20 minutes ahead of the rest of the race.
On the climb back up Powerline, Levi and Jeremy were together, having dropped everyone else.
Levi finished about 9 minutes ahead of Kobelski. Most of the race was at 9,000 feet with climbs to 12,600 feet.
