2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge Successes

More than 28 towns across Colorado would like to host the 2012 Pro Cycling Challenge.

All eleven towns that hosted the 2011 race would like to host again next year (Colorado Springs, Salida, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Aspen, Vail, Avon, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Golden and Denver).

It’s estimated that 1 million spectators watched the race.

Some towns interested for 2012 are Alamosa, Boulder, Canon City, Castle Rock, Delta, Estes Park, Evergreen, Fort Collins, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Granby, Grand Junction, Greeley, Idaho Springs, Lake City, Longmont, Loveland, Montrose, Superior, Morrison, Ouray, Pagosa Springs, Pueblo, Telluride, Winter Park and Woodland Park.

Race CEO Shawn Hunter has said he’d like to have a mountaintop finish in 2012.

Even though it’s costly for towns to host the race, they stand to make back their investment. The Tour of California towns are said to get back $6 for every $1 spent.

Requests for proposals went out in September and are due by the end of October. The race hopes to announce the 2012 host towns by the middle of November.
