A well-balanced line-up to tackle the Vuelta a Colombia
After the first week of training back in Colombia, following the very positive display in California, it is time for Colombia Coldeportes riders and technical staff to start focusing on the upcoming Vuelta a Colombia (June 12-24).
“This year’s Vuelta a Colombia route is probably slightly easier than the previous in terms of overall altitude, and it’s two days shorter than usual, but that won’t make it an easier race itself,” General Manager Claudio Corti explained. “They made it a more balanced race, and that helped to land several non-Colombian teams – it’s set to be an extremely contested one.”
“As usual, this race will be decided on mountains, but the two time trials scheduled on the first and final days have to be taken into fair account.”
Claudio and his technical staff had a tough job in selecting the 10-man line-up for an event all of his riders wanted to do, but in the end came out with what he thinks is the best mix to face this kind of route. “I expect several sprint or breakaway chances throughout the 10 road stages – Corti said – so we tried to find the best possible match to hold our own in every stage.”
Here is the 10-man line-up taking the start in Puerto Gaitan on Tuesday, June 12th: Darwin Atapuma, Robinson Chalapud, Esteban Chaves, Fabio Duarte, Juan Pablo Forero, Luis Felipe Laverde, Victor Hugo Peña, Carlos Julian Quintero, Jeffry Romero and Juan Pablo Suarez. Sports directors for this race will be Italian Valerio Tebaldi and Colombian Oliverio Rincon.
