2013 Pro Challenge Press Conference

The opening press conference for the 2013 edition of the USA Pro Challenge in Aspen today with full of laughs and lots of competitive friendliness.  Chris Froome said he’s definitely feeling the altitude while Tom Danielson commented that Chris and the Sky Team will smack them if they don’t keep up.  Peter Sagan has been here for two weeks training and getting used to the altitude. He was asked why he was here in a climber’s race and he noted several stages that are ripe for sprinters.

This Pro Challenge will be end of career for both Jens Voight and Christian Vandevelde.

When asked what he learned from his most recent Tour de France, Tejay Van Garderen said he’s been reading a lot of self-help books, which made everyone laugh.  On the more serious side, he said “This week I’ll try to keep the morale up.  If things don’t go your way, it’s easy to be disappointed.  5’ll just try to keep the whole team rallied and have confidence.  Sometimes that’s the key ingredient…having fun in what you’re doing.”

There were a lot of references to the strength of the teams that are here this year for the race.

There is also Team Novo Nordisk and all the riders on the team have diabetes. They want to show that they can compete and win races.
