2013 Tour Travels and Travails

Tour de France always has something going on.

Coming to the race yesterday right off the plane and getting stuck in Tour traffic jams with all the tourists for two hours and then being sent in the wrong direction twice was the welcome back.

Today was smoother.  I took backroads to the start and found a somewhat decent spot to shoot in Laval and made it to the finish with lots of time to spare.  I got the finish shot okay and sent my photos.  The connection was rather slow and they’re charing 10 euros now instead of the 6 they used to.  Accor Hotels now has free Wifi, so I may use that whenever I can.

Had dinner at a nearby Hotel Mercure restaurant which was really good.  The start is nearby tomorrow morning, which will make up for missing the exit to the hotel tonight and then not being able to turn around on the autoroute for at least 20 km (13 miles), pay the toll and then come back!  The last time that happened to me was a long time ago and it was even further, 40 km.

It will probably be another field sprint at the finish tomorrow.  There are probably some chateaux along the way but typically the Tour just goes by the town where the chateaux are and it’s next to impossible to see them.
