At the end of the six-day Tour of the Basque Country, the riders set off on a 135.7km course that was quite challenging, despite its short distance. Seven climbs and particularly the last ascent shortly before the finish up to Arrate would demand everything from the riders. BORA – hansgrohe was looking to Aleks Vlasov today, for whom a podium place in the overall classification was within reach. The team then tried to control the race from the start. Lennard Kämna managed to get into a chasing group after 20 km, then later supporting Aleks before the finale. In the third last climb of the day, there were several attacks from the GC group, and as a result Evenepoel fell back. Aleks then found himself in a small group on the final climb along with Martinez, Igazirre, Soler and Vingegaard, who then went on to fight for the day’s win and the yellow jersey. In the uphill sprint to Arrate, Izagirre narrowly took the win ahead of Aleks. Thanks to his strong performance today, Aleks moved up to third overall. The team was somewhat weakened by crashes and illnesses in the race. the team finished
