23,000 Police and gendarmes will be mobilized during the Tour de France to protect the safety of the race.
Nothing is going to be left to chance. Exceptional means are to be instituted and the authorities believe they are ready.
Bernard Cazeneuve, the Minister of the Interior, was quoted as saying “Everyone understands that, this year, the Tour de France will be in a particular context”, referring to recent terrorist attacks. The risk of attacks is “very elevated”.
“Super-gendarmes” are to be involved and ready to intervene at any moment if needed.
There will be a dozen policeman to accompany each team to the race. Normally there have been 6 motorcycle gendarmes at the back of the race. This year there will be fifty.
