60 Minutes Interview with Tyler Hamilton

Tyler talked with 60 Minutes for a long time and said a lot.  He said doping was happening on the US Postal team before Lance joined the team.  He said pretty much the whole peloton was doing the same – EPO, testosterone, blood doping.  He was obviously uncomfortable trashing Lance but he continued anyway.  Could he have declined to be interviewed?

Tyler spoke about a positive test for Lance during the 2001 Tour of Switzerland. Lance’s “people”, the UCI and others helped to cover it up. Lance later contributed $25,000 and $100,000 to anti-doping efforts.

Hamilton admitted to having seen Lance dope in 1999 and 2000 Tours de France, including a trip to Valencia, Spain in a private plane during the Tour de France.  There they were blood doped.  That must have been before Lance’s epic climb up the Montee du Hautacam where Richard Virenque said Lance flew past him like an airplane.

Frankie Andreu said he got tired of being passed on climbs by sprinters who should have been way behind him.

The infamous Michele Ferrari (Italian cycling trainer and EPO specialist) was banned from the sport but has continued anyway.

Hamilton said team members were taught how to dope without getting caught by the team doctor.

Hamilton said he wished he could erase his memories of his life up until now.  He only told his family the truth four days before the interview.  He’s returned his Olympic gold medal.

Lance’s “people” are accusing Hamilton of “taking cash for trash” and say that he is lying.  If the grand jury finds that to be the case he could be subject to prosecution.

Will he finally have to talk like Virenque did?  Will the Tour take back the jerseys?  Will they take back the jerseys of Indurain and Hinault as well?
