On Sunday May 5th, is scheduled Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 4 in Pineto (Central Italy) characterized by 8 races. Tempier and Kerschbaumer expected to clash among men, Lechner and Berta among women
Pineto (Abruzzo, Central Italy) is ready to host the second edition of Aprutium Race, 2019 Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 4, on Sunday May 5th. Today, Saturday, the top names of Italian Mountain Bike arrived in Abruzzo for the warm up for tomorrow’s race, reviewing the challenging loop by the Pineto’s promenade.
Last year, intense heat characterized the first edition of the event organized by ASD Cerrano Outdoor. in the Open categories, Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Torpado-Ursus) and Marika Tovo (Ghost Factory Racing) will take part in the Aprutium Race with the role of defending champions, aiming to repeat the 2018 success and reduce the gap in the circuit’s overall standings.
One week after pouring rain characterized Titano XCO in San Marino, the riders hope in a more pleasing weather: there is a slight risk of rain in the central hours, though temperatures should sit barely under 20° for much of the day.
The race route features several threats over 4,2 Km with 175 mt. elevation per lap, characterized by explosive ascents and exciting downhills.
Internazionali d’Italia Series resumes with Stephane Tempier (Bianchi Countervail) and Eva Lechner (Torpado Südtirol) as leaders in the Open categories. Pineto’s race will be important in rating their chances to hold the Northwave Custom Project’s jerseys until the grand finale in La Thuile. The main rivals of the two Open leaders belong in the same squad, Team Torpado-Ursus, as Italian National Champion Gerhard Kerschbaumer and Martina Berta are both currently in 2nd place overall.
In addition, Nadir Colledani (Bianchi Countervail) is expected to feature in the run along with Tempier and Kerschbaumer, after impressing in San Marino where he preceded Nino Schurter in a tight race for the runner-up spot.
In the women’s race, Marika Tovo (Ghost Factory Team) and Chiara Teocchi (Bianchi Countervail) look for redemption, whilst Vera Medvedeva (Metallurgica Veneta) and Giorgia Marchet (Team Rudy Project) will look to factor in the pursuit for the podium positions.
Torpado Ursus’ Juri Zanotti and Martina Berta lead the U23 overall rankings; Emanuele Vittone (Velo Club Monte Tamaro) and Letizia Marzani (Team Merida Italia) will try to consolidate the first position in the Juniores categories in view of La Thuile’s final round, also valid as UCI Junior Series fixture.
Aprutium Race’s programme will be run on a single day. On Sunday May 5th, the Cadet Men will compete at 8.30, followed by Cadet Women and Rookie Women at 9.00, Rookie Men at 10.00, Junior Men at 11.00, Open and Junior Women at 12.30 and Open Men at 14.30.
