Martínez takes gold in Pan American Games

We’ve been looking forward to seeing Dani Martínez return back to racing after a training accident, back in June in Colombia, where he suffered broken bones in both hands, sidelining him from this year’s Tour de France.

It was great to see in Martínez’s first major race back, that he is already showing great form by taking the gold medal in the time trial at the Pan American Games. This year the event is being held in Lima, Peru. It’s the equivalent of the Olympics for the Americas, bringing talented athletes from both continents to compete against each other.

“I’ve been recuperating up until now from my broken hands but everything feels good now,” Martínez commented post-race.

His winning time of 44 minutes and 22.17 seconds to complete the 37 kilometer time trial, was 1 minute and 54.73 seconds quicker than silver medalist, Brazilian, Magno Nazaret.

“It was a beautiful time trial,” Martínez said. “I feel in good form, the weather has been good, it wasn’t so cold today and there was far less wind today than what there was yesterday.”

With The Larry H.Miller Tour of Utah just around the corner for Martínez it’s good to see that he’s back and motivated to be out there racing again.

“It’s an honour to win here, everyone who’s here racing wants to win, and we are racing with some of the best riders from the Americas. Let’s see what happens going forward,” Martínez concluded.
