The Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant has reported that doping was tolerated at the Rabobank team from 1996 to 2007. Following an investigation, they found that in some cases it was even organized by the medical staff. Former cyclists, team employees and staff were interviewed.
Theo deRooy was general manager of the team from 2003-2007 has denied the allegations. But at the same time he’s said that certain riders were able to use it. Sometimes a decision was made by the medical staff to help certain riders but always considered their health and didn’t take any risks.
A number of team members have been caught up in this including Bernard Kohl and Michael Boogerd. The most infamous is Michael Rasmussen. In 2007 there were so many rumors surrounding his doping while he was in the yellow jersey that he was forced out of the race.
Theo deRooy resigned from the team in 2007 and Rabobank has an entirely new staff that claims to have a zero tolerance policy on doping.
