BORA–hansgrohe Misses Top Spot on Tour of Germany Queen Stage

From sunny Freiburg today’s queen stage took the riders to the rainy Schauinsland. Six riders formed today’s break and their lead over the bunch was at one point almost seven minutes. But still they had no chance when the bunch increased the speed before the last two climbs. BORA – hansgrohe was leading the field into the decisive part of the race, but unfortunately neither Emanuel Buchmann nor Patrick Konrad could follow the attacks in the end. While A. Yates took a solo victory, Emu crossed the line in 18th place.

From the finish line
“I was positive ahead of today and for sure I thought I can do better on this climb. My legs have been quite good the last days, even on the more explosive climbs that suit me less, but today I felt blocked right after 2 km of climbing. There is not a lot I can add, I just couldn’t go fast enough.” – Emanuel Buchmann

“Of course, the result is far away from what we aimed for. With Emu and Patrick, we thought to be able to attack on the last climb. But then both got dropped quite early. Of course, we have to consider Emu was still sick last week, but anyway that shouldn’t be an excuse. We just haven’t been good enough today. Even more we want to present ourselves in a different way again on tomorrow’s last stage.” – Christian Pömer, Sports Director
