Czech Tour: Florian Lipowitz Takes Second Place on Queen Stage and Defends Overall Lead

On the third day of the Czech Tour, the queen stage of the four-day race was on the program. After the start in Moravská Třebová, the riders had to cover 161km, three categorised climbs and a mountain finish in Červenohorské Sedlo. After a hard elimination race on the penultimate and final climbs, J. Staune-Mittet attacked and claimed the stage win, two seconds ahead of Florian Lipowitz. Before tomorrow’s final stage, Lipowitz leads the overall standings by 29 seconds over Norwegian J. Staune-Mittet.

“The queen stage here was a really tough one. There were several attacks on the penultimate climb, where Staune-Mittet was able to pull away. Toni and Ben were still with me, but we weren’t able to fully close the gap. I’m still more than satisfied with this second place today and very happy to have the overall lead with the last stage coming up. If someone would have told me before that I’d head into the final day as GC leader, I would not have believed a word of it. Tomorrow’s finale is really difficult again, we will give everything to defend the jersey.” Florian Lipowitz
