Liege-Bastogne-Liege wrapped up the first part of the season, the one characterized by the Spring Classics, and it’s now time for the Grand Tours, to start with Giro d’Italia.
On Saturday May 9th, Giro d’Italia’s 98th edition will get off from San Lorenzo al Mare (Imperia, Northern Italy) with a Team Time Trial’s opening. 23 riders will be wearing the Northwave top-range road model, Extreme Tech Plus, as they will do all the way to the finish in Milano, on May, 31st, after 21 days of racing.
MODOLO GOES FOR GLORY IN THE SPRINTERS’ STAGES
After claiming his first seasonal win in Turkey, Sacha Modolo of Lampre-Merida will try to bag his first Grand Tour win in the sprinters’ stages, helped by Roberto Ferrari and experienced Argentinian Maximiliano Ariel Richeze. Diego Ulissi and Polish Przemyslaw Niemiec will lead the Italian team in the mountain stages, whilst Manuele Mori, Jan Polanc, Xu Gang and Tsgabu Grmay (the first ever Ethiopian at the Giro) will round out Lampre-Merida’s line-up.
PATERSKI LEADS AGGRESSIVE CCC SPRANDI
It’s a truly international Giro d’Italia this year and raising CCC Sprandi Polkowice team got the nod by RCS Sport’s organizers. The Polish team, equipped with Northwave Extreme Tech Plus shoes, Speedster helmets and Steel sunglasses, will try to be in the spotlight both in mountain stages, with Maciej Paterski and Sylvester Szmyd, and in sprinters stages with Slovenian Grega Bole. As usual, the last week will be crucial for the overall success with its many iconic ascents, including Passo del Mortirolo and Colle delle Finestre. On the toughest ramps, Colombian climber Darwin Atapuma (BMC Racing) will look to bring his Northwave Extreme Tech Plus to the top. More Northwave riders taking part in the 98th Pink Race will be Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling), Julien Bérard (AG2R-La Mondiale), Marco Frapporti (Androni-Sidermec) and Martijn Keizer (Lotto-Jumbo).
