A very good Giro d’Italia for Northwave and Team Lampre-Merida continues on a great swing. Sprinter Sacha Modolo used his Extreme Tech Plus shoes to take his first ever Giro d’Italia stage win close to his home, the stage 13 (Montecchio Maggiore – Lido di Jesolo 147 Km), preceding on the finish line fellow Italians Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Factory) and Elia Viviani (Team Sky), and giving to both his Team and Northwave the third win at the 98th Giro d’Italia. Modolo’s win follows those of Slovenian Jan Polanc in stage 5 and Italian Diego Ulissi in stage 7.
The sprinter from Veneto finalized the job of his teammates, in a hectic finale after a mass crash had occurred with just more than 3 Km to go. Another Lampre-Merida’s rider, Argentinian Maximiliano Ariel Richeze placed sixth on the line, whilst Fabio Aru (Astana) is the new overall leader.
The stage was characterized by a 3-man attempt including an athlete sponsored by the Italian brand, Marco Frapporti. The Androni-Sidermec rider, together with fellow escapees Rick Zabel (BMC Racing) and Jerome Pineau (IAM Cycling), was caught by the peloton with 17 Km to go.
