LeMond Meets Roadblock

Greg LeMond’s offer to take over the UCI so he could lead the sport out of the current crisis has been met with resistance.  Current UCI president Pat McQuaid has labeled it a publicity stunt.  He said LeMond knows nothing about running elite cycling and anti-doping programs.

“It is a little bit arrogant of Greg to come along and be used…as a PR stunt.  McQuaid said he and Greg were good friends since the 1980s.  McQuaid feels Greg has allowed himself to be manipulated by some cycling activists.

Said McQuaid “The last 25 years, where has he been? Nowhere.  Not involved in cycling.  He is outside cycling, shouting at it looking in.”
