ORICA-SCOTT take out the elite women’s and men’s races on day two of the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic
Australian champion Amanda Spratt claimed the women’s race solo. Teammates Jenelle Crooks and Annemiek van Vleuten give ORICA-SCOTT top three places.
Australian champion Amanda Spratt has soloed to an emphatic victory on day two of the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic in Portarlington today.
Spratt, who declared the tough circuit her favourite of the series, attacked from a reduced group at the mid-way point of the race and immediately gained 24seconds in one lap of the 1.34km course.
Rio Olympic silver medallist Michael Hepburn capped off the day with a second solo victory following an earlier attack by Caleb Ewan.
Capping off a perfect day, Jenelle Crooks and Annemiek van Vleuten finished second and third respectively to complete a full ORICA-SCOTT podium.
“I have done 12 or 13 ‘Bay Crits’ now,” Spratt said. “This is my favourite course and I have been trying to win here every year and never have. Finally (I have).”
