An article in the New York Times says that Lance Armstrong is considering coming clean about having doped during his cycling career.
He would really like to be able to participate in athletic events that now are off-limits to him because of the doping allegations. Armstrong’s lawyer Tim Herman says he doesn’t know anything about it.
Some rumors are that big Livestrong supporters are pressuring him to do so to help the organization. Other rumors say he has talked with Travis Tygart, the USADA policeman, to try and soften the ban he received. The WADA code says athletes can received a lesser punishment if they confess and give details.
It’s currently unknown if the US Justice Department will participate in the whistle-blower lawsuit filed by Floyd Landis who at the moment is in it alone. Floyd could collect 30% of any money collected in the case which could be millions of dollars as the USPS team contract was over $30 million.
Lance had claimed not to have doped in the cases against SCA and the Times of London. He could end up facing perjury charges and would need some agreement from the Justice Department that he wouldn’t be prosecuted.
