2013 Giro del Trentino announces finish at Valsugana’s Vetriolo Terme

Cycling has already left its mark in Valsugana thanks to the indisputable Settimana Tricolore’s summer success, highlighted by a spectacular Italian close Championships pro-race.

Giro del Trentino (April 16th-19th) is ready to enjoy the same excitement with the 37th edition’s stage2 finish line in Vetriolo Terme on April 17th. Departure of the third stage takes place in Pergine Valsugana. GS Alto Garda announced the following agreement in Austria. The 2013 Giro del Trentino will go from Lienz, with two half-stages, the latter – an afternoon team time trial on April 16th in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, April 17th the riders will go from the Austrian small town of Sillian, though km 0 in Versiaco just past the Italian border. It will be the Giro del Trentino’s longest stage, about 220 km. The first quarter of the race is all descending, so a high average speed is expected. The first peak of the day, Val di Fiemme’s Passo di Lavazé, is set just after mid-course, with riders going down to Tesero and Cavalese.

The juicy stage part will be the final 13-km ramp to the 1.550 meters of Vetriolo, marked by Madonna della Neve church. The ascent features 15 hairpin turns with  10.2% slopes. On this climb, American Andrew Hampsten secured the win at 1988 Giro d’Italia by taking victory in the timed uphill stage.
