It will be the first ever participation for the BORA – hansgrohe captain in “Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt”. The demanding 220km parkour in the Taunus, with a finishing circuit in Frankfurt, should suite the UCI World Champion. But BORA – hansgrohe will not only rely on his leader.
After Paris-Roubaix, Sagan takes a three-week period without racing. Eschborn-Frankfurt will be the start to his second part of the season, which leads him after Frankfurt with Amgen Tour of California and Tour de Suisse, to the Tour de France in Düsseldorf. His goal there will be to remain his astonishing series of five consecutive wins of the Green Jersey.
“I already said, that this year in Frankfurt we’ll go for the win. We will have a strong line-up, with Peter as leader. As a German WorldTeam, the first race of the year in our home country is very important for our sponsors, for the fans, for ourselves. To have the UCI World Champion in a German team, means of course, that the fans in Germany want to see him race here in Germany. Obviously best would be to take the win. But we will prepare for all different kind of race tactics and bring a line-up for different race scenarios.” – Ralph Denk, Team Manager
„For sure it will be special for the whole team, but also for myself, to race in front of our German fans. I hope it will be a big cycling party, but this will only be the first cycling party this year, because we also have the Grand Depart in Düsseldorf ahead of us. For sure we will have a strong line-up and several cards to play. The only thing important is, that one of our team can fight for the win in the end in front of our home crowd.” – Peter Sagan, UCI World Champion
