UCI Truth and Reconciliation Commission

The UCI has decided to dissolve its independent commission that would have investigated the role played by its directors in the Armstrong scandal.  They’ve decided instead to form a “Truth and Reconciliation” commission.  There is so much contention between the UCI, WADA and the USADA who has refused to cooperate.  The UCI and WADA will work together.

UCI Director Pat McQuaid was quoted:

“During the weekend I spoke with John Fahey, the WADA president, has confirmed the commitment of the AMA to help UCI set up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission…Given this situation, the Steering Committee of the UCI decides today that the federation cannot fund a procedure whose results are likely to be rejected by a major player in the world of cycling. We have taken the decision to dissolve the Independent Commission…We will now focus our efforts on the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, with which we will be fully committed to WADA to examine the problem of doping in professional cycling, as well as allegations in the reasoned decision of the USADA.”
