2nd October 2017

Spaniards Mavi Garcia, Eider Merino, Alicia Gonzalez, Alba Teruel, Lourdes Oyarbide and Lorena Llamas; Poland’s Małgorzata Jasinska; and France’s Aude Biannic have all signed with the Blues

After confirming its intentions to build a UCI Women’s Team in 2018, the new Movistar Team has already sealed contracts with a great part of their roster for next season. Eight riders have so far joined the squad, set to be directed by Jorge Sanz. The names include Spaniards Mavi Garcia (33), Lourdes Oyarbide (23) and Lorena Llamas (30), coming from Bizkaia-Durango; and Eider Merino (23), Alicia Gonzalez (22) and Alba Teruel (21), also from a home outfit, Lointek.

The women’s Movistar Team will include at least two foreign riders, as Polish climber and nine-year professional Małgorzata Jasinska (33, Cylance Pro Cycling) and young (26), yet experienced French rouleur Aude Biannic (FDJ), with top-ten Worlds and Olympics finishes to his palmares, have both chosen the Blue team for their future.

The squad’s management team hopes to bring two more riders to their 2018 roster in the upcoming weeks, in order to close a ten-woman roster for their first season in pro cycling.
