The win at the Absa Cape Epic was not long in coming: on Thursday March 22nd, Austrian Daniel Geismayr and his teammate Nicola Rohrbach claimed a prestigious success in the queen stage of the South African Marathon stage race (Worcester – Wellington 114 Km), repeating the win conquered on Sunday March 18th in the opening prologue. The Centurion Vaude’s duo launched the decisive attack on the Bain Kloof climb, crossing the finish line with a 18” advantage on the race leaders, Jaroslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts, and 20” on Francesc Guerra Carretero and Luis Leao Pinto.
After yesterday’s difficult day, Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini moved to the front at the half stage point with the goal of making things difficult to the Cape Epic leaders, Kulhavy and Grotts, but the chasers brought back the Cannondale Factory Racing attempt in view of the final ascent of the day, the Bain Kloof climb.
Fumic and Avancini occupy the second overall place, 4’09” behind leaders Kulhavy and Grotts. Third place in the GC for Lakata and Hynek (+5’22”) ahead of Geismayr and Rohrbach (+10’20”).
Sabine Spitz and her teammate Robyn de Groot (Ascendis Health) finished third in the women’s stage, as the dominant duo Annika Langvad – Kate Courtney conquered another win extending the overall lead.
