Thursday, 19th April – Kanstantsin Siutsou is the winner of today’s climbing stage on the top of National Park Biokovo, Sv. Jure 1760 m at the 3rd Stage of Tour of Croatia.
After yesterday’s set-back and windy and grey 2nd Stage of Tour of Croatia, today’s sunny start brought luck to BAHRAIN MERIDA Team. Although it was a very hard climbing stage it was a huge success for our team.
“We were kind of hoping for that from the beginning of the race actually, but on these kind of races you never know what will happen,” expressed his thoughts sports director Gorazd Štangelj right after the race. “In the first part of the race, we were racing really defensive and came in the front only at the bottom of the climb. Kosta was smart on the climb; he waited with a group of four riders to come closer to the finish line and only then attacked. And he won the stage,” concluded Štangelj who didn’t hide his satisfaction with the teamwork the riders showed today. They were all very strong.
Today’s winner and a new GC leader, Kanstantin Siutsou, commented after the race: “First I tried to attack two or three times about 10 km to go. Than I waited a little and about 5 km to go, I found a good moment to attack and than I gave everything I could. Some of it was tactic and some of it experience. But at the end it brought me a win, not only to me, but to my whole team.”
After dynamic first three days of Tour of Croatia, team is hardly waiting for the challenges in the next stages and looking forward to them. Tomorrow with a red jersey team feels very much motivated.
