Rosa Calvo, the prosecutor in the case against Spanish doping doctor Eufemiano Fuentes has asked for a two year prison term for him and his cohorts and described Fuentes’ network as “frauduent and criminally reprehensible”.
The method used to transport the blood for transfusions was to put them in backpacks, surrounded by cold drinks to keep them at the right temperature. Calvo said that “neglects hygiene standards and creates a real risk to the health of those receiving transfusions.”
His objective is to clean the sport of cycling in Spain.
The defense claims there was always a thermometer in the backpacks, transfusions were only done when hematocrit levels were too high, they didn’t do transfusions in the race.
