Northwave flies on track: three victories in World Cup’s opener

In Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (France), one-two in the Omnium race with Kirsten Wild and Letizia Paternoster. Macey Stewart wins the Team Pursuit with Australia, Julie Leth first in the Madison race with Dideriksen.

The 2018/19 UCI Track World Cup has gotten off in the best of ways. In the opening round the riders claimed three victories (Women’s Omnium, Women’s Team Pursuit and Women’s Madison).

Omnium World and European Champion Kirsten Wild confirmed her magic moment in the specialty, conquering the first World Cup stage. With 125 points, the Dutch athlete preceded Italian Letizia Paternoster (116), as Brit Neah Evans (109) completed the podium.

In the team events, the top spot of the podium was Macey Stewart, winner in the Team Pursuit with Australia, and Dane Julie Leth, first in the Madison race together her teammate Amelie Dideriksen. Stewart and her teammates preceded New Zealand in the final round, while Italian Letizia Paternoster grabbed the bronze medal ahead of Germany’s Lisa Brennauer’s. In the Madison, Leth and Dideriksen took the gold medal, preceding Great Britain’s Evans and Key and the Australian pair formed by Northwave’s Macey Stewart and her teammate Georgia Baker.

In addition, in the Men’s Team Pursuit was Italian Filippo Ganna in bronze along with teammates Michele Scartezzini, Liam Bertazzo and Francesco Lamon, with the new National Record, 3’53”.153, as the Danish quartet conquered the gold medal with Great Britain in second place.
