The Downhill World Cup stage in Daolasa di Commezzadura was awarded as best event of the World circuit at the UCI Meeting in Barcelona.
Val di Sole’s three-year path to the 2021 Mountain Bike World Championships (Cross Country, Downhill and 4Cross) could not have started any better. On Thursday December 13th, the Trentino’s event has been awarded as “Best Event” of the Downhill specialty of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup by the International Cycling Union during the UCI Meeting in Barcelona, Spain.
Ten years after the first major World MTB event in the area – the 2008 MTB World Championships – Val di Sole was recognized on the biggest stage for its organizational quality, confirming the high consideration already shown by the International Federation is assigning to Val di Sole an outstanding program of top-notch event over the next three years.
Receiving the award from UCI Head of Off-Road Peter Van den Abeele was Grandi Eventi Val di Sole’s Patrizia Daldoss, along with technical director Sergio Battistini. “We are honored and proud of this UCI award” – told Val di Sole Tourism Board President Luciano Rizzi. “Ten years ago, we started our commitment in Mountain Biking, and today we belong among the top events of the Mountain Bike World, but we know we still have room to make the event even better and more relevant on the global scale. We are working on this, and this UCI award will give us a boost in the right direction.”
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be back to Val di Sole next summer, from August 2 to 4, when the Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Cross Country and Downhill stages will be joined by the 4Cross World Championship, to be celebrated in Daolasa di Commezzadura also in 2020 and 2021. In 2020 the UCI MTB World Cup finals will take place in Val di Sole (September 11-13), whilst from August 25th to 29th, 2021, the Mountain Bike World Championships will return to Val di Sole, in the Cross Country, Downhill and 4Cross specialties.
