Stuttgart, Sunday, 26th August – An incredible race for Matej Mohorič. He won overall the Tour of German. Another great success in his career.
Today’s closing stage, 207,5 kilometres from Lorsch to Stuttgart, was not easy. But, Matej, the winner of red, green and white jersey, was unstoppable.
He commented on his today’s win in general classification: »Today’s win was a team effort and we did our best to control and to stay in front the whole race. In fact, the whole day we rode in front. The breakaway was strong with two really hard time trials and we had to pull out since the start. All of my team-mates did the great job, especially Antonio Nibali, Niccolò Bonifazio and Heinrich Haussler stayed with me till the finish to get a good position before the climbs. I drop a little in the last climb but I manage to catch the group and be back to second place on the sprint what was enough to keep the red jersey. I am super happy for myself and my team!«
Sports Director Tristan Hofmann commented: “I am 200% satisfied. Guys performed very well all days. Today was really hard. Breakaway started very fast with 6 minutes advantage and with other teams we had to work hard all day to catch them. Team-mates helped Matej all days and the result is a great win.”
