Argos-Shimano to 2012 Vuelta

Stage victory is again the goal

Just like in the Tour de France Team Argos-Shimano will in the Vuelta a España focus on stage wins. The formation has composed a team with the ability to fight for a victory through a sprint or attack.

General Manager Iwan Spekenbrink stated the ambition. “In the Vuelta a España we will again go out and try to grab a stage win. There are some stages that especially suit Simon Geschke and John Degenkolb very well.”

The following nine riders are selected:

John Degenkolb (GER)

Simon Geschke (GER)

Johannes Fröhlinger (GER

Alexandre Geniez (FRA)

Ji Cheng (CHI)

Yukihiro Doi (JAP)

Thierry Hupond (FRA)

Tom Dumoulin (NED)

Koen de Kort (NED)

Team Leaders Merijn Zeeman (NED) and Christian Guiberteau (FRA) will accompany the riders during the three weeks of racing through – mainly northern – Spain.

Dumoulin

With his selection Tom Dumoulin (21) is getting rewarded for his excellent debut year at Team Argos-Shimano. The Limburger already showed his talents in Rund um Köln, the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg, the Amgen Tour of California and the Dutch championships. In that last race, he finished seventh in both the time trial and the road race. In the Vuelta Dumoulin gets a chance to gain some Grand Tour experience.

Cheng

As in some other races this year – like Milan-San Remo – Ji Cheng will be the first Chinese rider ever to be at the start of the Tour of Spain. In the previous 66 editions this has never happened.

The Vuelta a Espana starts on August 18 in Pamplona and finishes on September 9 in Madrid.
