The Boulder Indoor Velodrome which opened in 2009 closed on Monday. The difficult economy and the warm weather contributed to the closure. With so much warm weather, most cyclists were riding outdoors. They had a good base of indoor cyclists but not enough to continue operating.
A group of local riders are looking into the possibility of purchasing the facility and leasing out part of it for office space and running the track nights and weekends.
An outdoor velodrome is being built in nearby Erie, Colorado. It’s expected to be finished this summer. Its track will be 250 meters long, 108 meters longer than the Boulder indoor one.
