Budiak, First Ukrainian Winner

Anatolii Budiak gave Ukraine its first victory on the Tour of Rwanda, on this 6th stage between Musanze and Kigali passing by the famous Wall of Kigali eight kilometers from the finish.
The rider from the Terengganu team broke away from the peloton just after, on the last climb which led to the finish, along with the Eritrean Natnael Tesfazion of the Italian Drone Hopper-Androni team. The two riders managed to keep 5 seconds ahead of the first pursuers. This is the first victory in the UCI 2.1 class for Anatolii Budiak, which was a special and very emotional day for him. “I’m very happy to win a race of such a level, he said, it’s very hectic, it attacks from everywhere and it makes the race very indecisive. »

Natnael Tesfazion finished in second place and took the yellow jersey. The winner of the 2020 edition took advantage of the withdrawal of Spanish leader Angel Madrazo who arrived 10th at 16 seconds. This is the 5th time that the yellow jersey has changed hands since the start, after Alexandre Geniez, Jhonatan Restrepo, Axel Laurance and Angel Madrazo. “It was not planned to take the jersey today, said the Eritrean, but the circumstances of the race were favorable, I thought that it would be rather tomorrow that I would take first place in the general classification. »
Tomorrow the runners will have a very difficult stage to cover with the arrival at the top of Mount Kigali.
