Duarte to represent Colombia at London Olympics

The Federacion Colombiana de Ciclismo communicated in an official release that Colombia ColdeportesFabio Duarte will be one of the athletes representing Colombia at the forthcoming Olympic Games in London.

Duarte, Team Sky’s Rigoberto Uran and Sergio Henao will sport the Colombian jersey in London’s road race, on Saturday, July 28th. Duarte will also take part in the time trial on Wednesday, August 1st.

I am hugely excited to have gotten into the Colombian selection for London – 2008 under 23 World Champion – there were a number of riders legitimately aiming for a spot in this 3-man line-up, so I am really grateful to have been given such an important responsibility.

The road race route is not extremely suited to our characteristics, as many people are pointing it to be a sprinters’ race, but we’ll be determined to try hard to leave a mark and show our pride in sporting these colors,” Duarte remarked.

General Manager, Claudio Corti showed his happiness for Fabio’s achievement, underlining how significant it is for both the rider and the team: “We knew Fabio was running for a spot, and this great news made us really happy. I believe Fabio has done a lot to deserve it, riding hard for the whole year and making a number of big shows in the last couple of months. Congratulations to this great guy.

At the same time, we are very proud that a rider from Colombia Coldeportes will be taking part in the biggest sports event in the world. Being in our first year in professional cycling, I believe Fabio’s achievement gives credit to the worth of this project: we have been building up in the first part of the year, and results are now starting to show.
