Colorado Supreme Court Overturns Black Hawk Bike Ban

The 2010 ban on bikes in Black Hawk was overturned by the Colorado Supreme Court yesterday.  State law allows local municipalities to prohibit bikes from the streets only when there’s an alternate route within 450′.  Three cyclists were ticketed $68 apiece and appealed them. Locals were able to commute by bike but not other cyclists passing through.

Black Hawk is a gambling town and the mayor is not happy about it. There’s really only one way to get through town so the city council will meet to find other options. They claim there’s too much traffic to allow bikes.
