He said that before the Tour his best time trials were at Navacerrada and Morquera. He said he never felt better in the mountains. He was sure he would either win or at least finish on the podium. But in Corsica those feelings disappeared. He finished six and a half minutes behind Chris Froome.
Some critics have suggested that he should not have gone to Argentina to race and started his season too early. He disagrees. He thinks the secret to winning the grand tours is to arrive in top form at the right time, which was not the case for him this year. Next season he’s planning to change his approach. He admits he started too early with Argentina and was not in good condition.
He’s decided not to race the Vuelta this month but will do the BP Plouay de Quebec and Montreal and the Tour of Lombardy and maybe the Worlds.
