Cycling News Week of June 14 2010

Franck Schleck has won the Tour de Suisse.  This is the last race in preparation for the Tour de France.

Kim Kirchen was admitted to a hospital in Zurich after suffering a heart attack.  He’s in a medically induced coma.

Portuguese rider Rui Faria Da Costa won stage 8 in the Tour de Suisse.  Robert Gesink is still in the leader jersey.

After suffering a crash and being blamed by other cyclists, Mark Cavendish has “thrown in the sponge” for the Tour de Suisse.  Marcus Burghart won the stage.

Based on his biological passport irregularities, Ricardo Serrano was suspended two years and had to pay 23,000 euros.

Bernard Kohl won’t be racing until 2014.  The Austrian anti-doping bureau added an additional 4 years onto his ban after his 2008 Tour de France EPO positive results.

Petacchi won stage 4.

Cancellara wore the leader’s jersey into his home country of Switzerland but it will be leaving on the shoulders of Tony Martin.  Frank Schleck won stage 3 in Schwarzenburg.

Team Radio Shack was NOT invited to participate in the Vuelta a Espana.  Cadel Evans’ BMC team was also not invited.  The teams that will be participating are: Andalucia, Cervélo, Garmin-Transitions, Sky, Katusha, Xacobe, Caisse d’Epargne, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Footon-Servetto, AG2R, Astana, Bouygues, Cofidis, Française des Jeux, Lampre, Liquigas, Omega Pharma-Lotto, Quick Step, Rabobank, Team HTC-Columbia, Team Milram and Team Saxo Bank.

Fabian Cancellara is currently leading the Tour de Suisse.

Italian authorities are beginning an enquest into the mechanical doping allegations that surfaced recently.
