Emilia Fahlin and Loren Rowney finished first and second at the Menomonie Road Race stage of the Nature Valley Grand Prix after 131k of racing. It was a sprint finish.
“I really wanted to win a stage here,” said Fahlin. “I’ve been trying in the crits. But actually in this race I was hoping to lead out Loren.”
Amber Neben went for a late attack in the final circuits of the racing, forcing Optum and Tibco to chase.
“It was perfect for us,” said Fahlin. “The pace was high because of the chase and we were able to wait until the last lap to get our lead out organized. I took Loren around the last corner with me, but she didn’t come around so we took first and second. It was a great day for us and it’s also nice to be able to win a race for the people from HED Cycling and also our host families who have been looking after us so well here in Minnesota.”
