It was a perfect 2019 road debut, and an unforgettable first in a Team Sky jersey: Northwave’s Filippo Ganna won Tour de la Provence’s opening prologue, in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (France), on Thursday February 14th.
The 22-year-old Italian rider clocked in 10:05, preceding Dutchman Sebastian Langeveld (+9”) and Frenchman Rémi Cavagna (+10”). Ganna leads the overall standings, as well as the Points and Young Riders’ Classifications.
Ganna’s first win in road cycling came with two weeks to the start of the UCI Track World Championships, to be held in Pruszkòw (Poland) from February 27th to March 3rd, where the reigning Individual Pursuit World Champion will try to defend the title claimed last year in Apeldoorn (Netherlands).
