Fumic and Avancini take stage win and lead at Cape Epic

After Geismayr’s win in the opening prologue, Northwave Ghost XC grabbed the success in stage 1 thanks to the Cannondale Factory Racing Team


Runners-up in the prologue and winners of the stage 1: Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini mastered the start of the 15th Absa Cape Epic, in South Africa. On Monday March 19th, the Cannondale Factory Racing’s duo clinched victory in stage 1 (Robertson – Robertson 110 Km).

Fumic and Avancini outsprinted Jaroslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts, while Fabian Rabensteiner and Michele Casagrande placed third, 5’33” behind the stage’s winners.

Northwave maintained the Absa Cape Epic overall jersey: after Daniel Geismayr’s win in the yesterday’s prologue together with his teammate Nicola Rohrbach (seventh today), Fumic and Avancini took over the leadership in the GC with 41” of advantage on Kulhavy and Grotts and 5’36” on Geismayr and Rohrbach.
