Hirschi Defends Yellow on Queen Stage in Hungary

Swiss rider 4th on stage

Tour de Hongrie – Saturday 13 May, 2023

Marc Hirschi and UAE Team Emirates successfully defended the yellow jersey on stage 4 of the Tour de Hongrie today, fighting off attacks from the GC challengers on the final ascent to the line on the mountainous day from Martonvásár to Dobogókő (206.4km).

After yesterday’s victory, Hirschi kept his cool to control his rivals with particular help from Finn Fisher-Black on the final ascent which saw Yannis Voisard (Tudor) slip away for victory, with Hirschi coming home in 4th spot.

The winning margin was not enough for Hirschi to lose the yellow jersey heading into stage 5 tomorrow on the final day in Budapest (150km).

Hirschi: “It was a really difficult day but the team did a super job to control the breakaway and keep me safe. The climb was not too steep but a lot of guys were attacking and I had to control things which took a lot of energy. Luckily I had Fisher-Black who did great work in the final who was really strong. I’m happy to keep the leaders jersey and hopefully tomorrow I can stay upright and keep it on my shoulders.”
