Jhonatan Restrepo Takes a Double

Colombian Jhonatan Restrepo pulled off the perfect shot today in Rubavu by winning the 3rd stage of the Tour of Rwanda and grabbing the overall leader’s yellow jersey. The rider of the Italian Drone Hopper-Androni team beat in the sprint the six who accompanied him – the French Axel Laurance (B&B Hotels-KTM) still second like yesterday in Rwamagana, Angel Madrazo (Burgos-BH), Jesse Ewart (Bike Aid ), Henok Mulueberhane (Bike Aid), Anatolii Budiak (Terengganu Polygon) and Natnael Tesfazion the Eritrean teammate of the winner.
This group arrived more than a minute ahead of the peloton and 3’52” over the yellow jersey Alexandre Geniez who finished 57th.

“It was part of our strategy this morning, affirmed Jhonatan Restrepo the new leader, we had decided to place ourselves in all the breakaways to give ourselves a chance to move the general classification. With Natnael, we had two cards for the sprint but we decided that he should not take any risks because he will be our leader for the final classification. »

Jhonatan Restrepo is a regular at the Tour of Rwanda, he has become the record holder for the number of stage victories with a sixth success today after 4 victories in 2020 and one in 2021.
