The second stage of the Tour de Hongrie was again a typical sprinter stage with a breakaway group of seven, which was able to pull out a maximum lead of 7 minutes. On the rainy section along Lake Balaton, two mountain classifications were on the program at the beginning of the race. As on the day before, the escapers were controlled by the peloton and finally caught a few kilometers from the finish, so that after 183 kilometers there was a bunch sprint. The BORA-hansgrohe riders did a great job and put Jordi Meeus in an ideal position for the sprint. He was able to finish off the leadout of his teammates with a strong sprint and won the stage. Unfortunately, Patrick Gamper and Ben Zwiehoff were involved in crashes. Ben was taken to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone.

From the Finish Line

“First of all, of course, we are super happy with our win today. Juraj rode all day at the front and controlled the leading group perfectly. In the final, the team did a great sprint preparation and Jordi did everything right and therefore deserved to win. Unfortunately, Patrick and Ben were involved in a crash and we have to see how things go for them. At this point, get well soon!”- Steffen Radochla, Sports Director

“Big thank you to the whole team! The guys did an amazing job and had a lot of confidence in me. Today our timing was a bit better than yesterday and I could ride a next to perfect sprint. I am super happy that I could finish it off and to win today. As we hope there are some more sprints coming up we really want to win a second time here in Hungary.”- Jordi Meeus
