Joris Nieuwenhuis’ January cyclocross program

After a strong opening to his 2020-2021 cyclocross campaign, Team Sunweb are pleased to announce Joris Nieuwenhuis’ January line-up. The 24 year-old Dutchman will make the World Championships at the end of the month his main focus, hear from him and head of coaching Rudi Kemna below.

Nieuwenhuis said: “I’m looking forward to the races in January. It’s the month that I have been working towards in my first block of races, and it’s where all of my main goals lie, so I’m really looking forward to getting into it. In December I invested a bit more in endurance than I normally would, next I will focus a bit more on cyclocross specific intervals, aiming to be in my top shape for the championships.”

Team Sunweb head of coaching Rudi Kemna continued: “Joris has had a solid start to his cyclocross campaign, picking up consistent results in the races that he’s done so far. After his later finish to the road season, we planned to start off the cyclocross season a bit slower, building momentum and shape towards his main goals in January. Joris’ training is going well and after working on his endurance, we’re shifting focus to the explosiveness needed to compete for top results. Things are heading in the right direction and in this way we expect Joris to steadily build on his form in the coming weeks.”
