Team Lotto.NL-Jumbo claimed their first win in the 70th Vuelta a Espana. Bert-Jan Lindeman clinched victory in the first high-mountain stage of the race (Jòdar – La Alpujarra 191,1 Km), preceding on the finish line Ilia Koshevoy and Fabio Aru.
Lindeman was one of the promoters of the long escape characterizing the stage. The attempt, including Koshevoy, Carlos Quintero, Jerome Cousin and Ametx Txurruka, reached 15 minutes of maximum advantage, that proved enough for the escapees to contest the win on the final climb.
Lindeman launched the decisive attack with 400 meters to go, outdistancing Koshevoy and resisting to Fabio Aru’s comeback. In addition, the 26-year-old from Assen tied Omar Freile for the KOM Classification with 13 points, while Colombian Esteban Chaves maintained the overall leader jersey.
