On a totally flat 46 kilometers long course around Herning, the polish time trail specialist from BORA – hansgrohe found himself in a nail-biting fight for the medals. With an average speed of 51,8km/h it was a super-fast battle between Bodnar, Mullen and Campenaerts. While Mullen was the fastest on the first part of the course, Bodnar came back from a 11 seconds’ gap to a 3 second lead on the last intermediate split. But it was Campenaerts who proved to be the fastest riders on the last part of the parcours, finishing in 53:13 just 3 seconds ahead of Bodnar and another 2 ahead of Mullen. Jan Bárte, who represented the colors of the Czech Rep. today, finished in 10th place.
“Well, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Still I am happy with my silver medal and congrats to Victor who was the strongest today. It was a tough race, because it was flat and almost without corners, so you couldn’t rest anywhere, just push all the time. In the end, I felt tired and I think after an exhausting Tour de France, this time trial was maybe a little too long for me. But in general, my performance was good, I judged my speed well and was fighting for Gold until the very last moment. After my win in Marseille, this is another special moment for me, to take a medal for my country – Poland.” – Maciej Bodnar
