MIKEL LANDA TAKES 3RD PLACE ON PICÓN BLANCO OF VUELTA A BURGOS

Vuelta a Burgos 2020
Sargentes de la Lora – Picón Blanco — 150 km

Vuelta a Burgos, the race where the season 2020 finally restarted and one of the the very few sporting events that is happening in Spain, continued today at its mountain stage with extremly hard wind and high temperatures from the very start in Sargentes de la Lora up to the finish line at Picón Blanco, where Mikel Landa, Team Bahrain McLaren leader managed to take an excellent 3rd place what makes him feel satisfied and before the last two stages of Vuelta a Burgos and his high goal to get to the podium place in the general classification at its very end.
Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) took the victory, winning ahead of George Bennett (Jumbo Visma) and Mikel Landa (Team Bahrain McLaren).

Evenepoel took his chance at the right timing and went into attack for his victory on the final climb at 2km to go, so the young Belgian managed to speed up and ride away from all of his rivals and crossed the finish line 18 seconds ahead of the runner-up George Bennett and 32 seconds ahead of MIkel Landa.
Mikel Landa: “I am happy after this hard stage. We had a surprise with such strong wind and my team reacted very well by closing the gap so, I have to be satisfied how everything unfolded. I think that my third place today is a good result and my team worked really good. Tomorrow, we have Stage 4, Bodegas Nabal – Roa – 164 km, which is also very important one, but the last, Stage 5, and the climb to Lagunas de Neila might be a decisive one. It will be a bit shorter stage, but more explosive.

Damiano Caruso: “I think that we did a really good job to protect Mikel in a quite good way and in the right moments. At the middle of todays’ stage, we found ourselves in the echelones, so this stage began to be hard from that moment, not only and just before the last climb. Tomorrows’ stage looks like a flat one, but I would say only on a paper. I believe there will be many open areas and lots of stress we may expect out there”.
