Arnaud Demare delivers!
Maser (Treviso), 19 March, 2016 – With a very long, extraordinarily powerful sprint, Demare left behind all the fierce competition, crossing the Sanremo finish line with arms in the air after an almost 300 km ride.
The French rider was over the moon. He showed up for the Spring Super Classic in top form after the Paris-Nice, where he had also managed to win a stage. He is a rider aware of his skills but also conscious of having to contend with a high level of competition.
Arnaud Demare hung in there with the best riders on the hauls up the Cipressa and the Poggio. Another big name from Sidi Sport, Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky) also gave it a good try on the Poggio, but he got caught in the final. Then, a thick group of the fastest sprinters made it to the straightaway towards the arrival, but the Frenchman from Fdj had no rivals as he vied for a perfect sprint. Second place went to Britain’s Ben Swift (Team Sky) and third to Belgian Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto Soudal). There were lots of Sidi champions in the Sanremo Top10: 4th Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis), 6th Alexander Kristoff (Katusha), 7th Heinrich Haussler (IAM Cycling), 8th Filippo Pozzato (Southeast) and 10th Matteo Trentin (Etixx – Quick-Step).
The young French rider was born in 1991 and has been in the pros since 2012. Before that he was the under23 World Champion (in 2012) and he was also the National French Champion (2014). The 2016 Milano-Sanremo has become the most important victory in his career.
Arnaud Demare can count on his Sidi Wire shoes. They are light and provide high performance, making them the top models in the Sidi Sport collection. With this victory Sidi Sport has captured another monumental classic in world cycling to put on its trophy board.
