Mountain Bike Hall of Fame Leaving Crested Butte

The Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and Museum is heading to California.

It was established in 1988 in Crested Butte, Colorado to house the history of mountain biking from its early years in Colorado.

Kay Peeterson-Cook and her husband Don curated the museum since 1997.  They spent hundreds of volunteer hours managing the museum which shares space with the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum.

Marin County, California is planning a much larger (10 times) museum of the history of the sport where it will get considerably more visitor traffic. Some claim Marin County actually started mountain biking, even with the famed Pearl Pass history between Aspen and Crested Butte.  Marc Vendetti was one of the early pioneers.  He was quoted as saying “Everyone here is really excited. The town council and the local chamber are really behind it.”
